Vidushi Dr. Kamala Shankar is one of the leading and renowned Indian Classical Slide Guitarist of India with regular performances of Hindustani Classical Music, both in India and abroad. She is the first lady in this specialized art of music that has enthralled the audience at every concert with her immaculate and melodious renditions. She is known for her tremendous control on the stringed instrument along with an in-depth knowledge of playing this specialized guitar in its Gayaki Ang (tonal quality which vocalizes the music) which has ever mesmerized the audience for the past 40 years. For this, her guitar renditions are popularly known as ‘The Singing Guitar’.

Shankara Arts Foundation is a registered non –profitable organisation, established in the year 2007 at Varanasi. Varanasi is well known as the city of Lord Shankar (Shiva). The Foundation is named after the deity, which is the name of a Raga too.

The main objectives of the Foundation is to provide high skilled training in music, and the mission is to promote and encourage artists based exclusively on talent, and not by inheritance of musical legacy by birth alone.The Foundation teaches the right aspects of learning classical music in a Guru-Shishya-Parampara way and gives the opportunity to maintain high level of music through the audio and video recordings of the legendary artists.Shankara Arts Foundation conducts workshops and lecture-demostration series every quarterly which gives the platform for thinking, learning and teaching through performance, discussion and appreciation.
